A Tri-M Music Honor Society

Dance and Community Research Institute conducts interdisciplinary research across dance, music, and technology. This is primarily a research institute working on standardizing diasporic arts pedagogy and also looking at throughlines with the arts education standards as laid out by National Core Arts Standards. This program is used as a way to honor and legitimize students who are working with Indian arts because there is such a paucity in their career pathways beyond K12. Although housed in the Department of Dance at UNC Charlotte, this program has many renowned music faculty from India, Indian diaspora of Charlotte, and all over the United States. The Director is 2022-2023 Fulbright scholar, Dr. Anirban Bhattacharyya, an ethnomusicologist. â€‹
