Play Circle
Play Circle is the Dance and Community Research Institute’s (dNc) creative learning hub for primary school learners, where dance becomes both a joyful activity and a structured pathway for growth. Inspired by mastery-based models like Kumon and Mathnasium, Play Circle is designed to help children build skills step by step, through consistent practice, exploration, and play.

In Play Circle, young dancers engage with South Asian dance traditions and global movement practices while also developing:
Cultural Knowledge
Learning stories, symbols, and values embedded in dance traditions.
Cognitive Skills
Enhancing memory, sequencing, focus, and problem-solving through movement patterns and choreography.
Social-Environment Learning
Cultivating empathy, collaboration, self-awareness, and confidence in a supportive group environment.
Physical Growth
Building balance, coordination, flexibility, and strength through age-appropriate dance exercises.
Creative Expression
Creative Expression – Encouraging imagination and storytelling through improvisation, performance, and reflection.

The Play Circle approach combines structured practice with creative exploration, ensuring that children progress at their own pace while experiencing the joy of dance. Just as in Kumon or Mathnasium, mastery is developed gradually, but here it extends beyond academics into the holistic development of the child—mind, body, and spirit.
Through performance opportunities, playful challenges, and guided mentorship, Play Circle prepares children not only to be strong dancers but also curious learners, empathetic peers, and confident individuals.
Play Circle 2026 will run from August to November 2026. Registrations will open on March 2026.
